Ashdod, Israel
     Mediterranean Cruise Port

A tidy planned community built on golden dunes, Ashdod is southern Israel's only Mediterranean harbor.  Yet this new city has fabulously ancient roots:  Ashdod is mentioned in the Old Testament, and archaeologists have found ruins almost 4,000 years old.  This is the doorway to the historic treasures of Jerusalem, and the worldly pleasures of Tel Aviv.

Description

Perched on sand dunes, Ashdod is one of Israel's three planned cities.  In former times it was an important cultural and religious center.  Today, it is the perfect gateway to Jerusalem, the golden city of three great religions, where pilgrims flock to trace the glorious paths of history.  Bustling Tel Aviv, lined with golden-sand beaches and a mere 45 minutes from Ashdod, provides attractions from a more recent era.   The determined, industrious Israeli nation profoundly touches the emotions of all who visit.
