Apra, Guam The superb deep-water port of Apra is one of the busiest in Micronesia. It is also the gateway to Guam, the largest of the Mariana Islands and an American protectorate. The native Chamorro people are a fascinating cultural blend of Indonesian, Filipino, Mexican and Spanish stock. Their ancestors had already developed a complex society by 800 AD, living in elaborately decorated communal houses.
